Sales tax, filings and compliance for multi-channel gear brands
Selling online across the United States creates tax obligations in places you have never visited. The question is not whether they exist, but whether anyone is keeping track of them.
The problem a generic accountant misses
Since the Supreme Court's 2018 Wayfair decision, states can require remote sellers to collect sales tax once they pass an economic threshold, and each state sets its own. A pickleball brand selling through Shopify, Amazon and wholesale can cross several of those thresholds in a single strong season without noticing.
Marketplaces add complexity. Amazon collects and remits tax on marketplace sales in most states, but your direct and wholesale sales remain your responsibility, and inventory held in a fulfillment warehouse can create obligations of its own. Resale certificates from retailers need to be collected and kept. Contractors need 1099s. A generic accountant who meets you once a year at filing time is not watching any of this as it happens.
What we do
We track your sales tax exposure continuously, state by state and channel by channel. When you approach a threshold, you hear from us before you cross it. We handle registration where you have nexus, keep filings on schedule, and reconcile tax collected against tax remitted so nothing is left sitting on your balance sheet.
Throughout the year we plan ahead: how inventory is valued, when purchases are timed, how the business is structured. When year end arrives, your preparer receives tax-ready financial statements they can work from directly. Full federal and state return preparation is available as a separate service if you would prefer one team to handle everything.
